Fun Facts About Emus
Emus are Australia's largest birds and the second tallest in the world after ostriches. These amazing flightless birds can grow up to 6 feet tall and are designed with powerful legs that let them run up to 30 miles per hour. Emus have shaggy brown feathers, long necks, and curious blue eyes that help them watch for danger.
Emus live throughout Australia in forests, grasslands, and desert areas where they search for plants, seeds, and insects to eat. Male emus are caring fathers who sit on the eggs for 8 weeks without eating and then raise the striped chicks by themselves. These birds can't fly, but they are excellent swimmers and enjoy taking baths!
