Fun Facts About Frogmouths
Frogmouths are unusual nocturnal birds with wide, flat beaks that look like a frog's mouth. These birds are found in Australia, Southeast Asia, and nearby islands where they live in forests and woodlands. They are designed with amazing camouflage feathers that make them look exactly like broken tree branches during the day.
There are 16 species of frogmouths and they are expert hunters at night. These birds sit very still on branches and catch insects, spiders, and small animals that pass by with their wide beaks. Frogmouths make soft hooting sounds to communicate and build small platform nests in tree forks where both parents care for their chicks.
