Petrels are seabirds designed with tube-shaped nostrils on top of their beaks and excellent flying abilities. These ocean-loving birds spend most of their lives far out at sea and only come to land to nest. Petrels are found in oceans all around the world and include species like albatrosses, shearwaters, and storm petrels.

There are about 130 species of petrels and they are amazing fliers. These birds can glide for hours over ocean waves without flapping their wings and some can fly thousands of miles during migration. Petrels eat fish, squid, and krill by diving or picking food from the water's surface, and they can smell food from miles away!
