Fun Facts About Tinamous
Tinamous are ground-dwelling birds found only in Central and South America. These shy birds are designed with plump bodies, short tails, and strong legs for running through forests and grasslands. Tinamous have excellent camouflage feathers that help them hide among leaves and vegetation on the forest floor.
There are about 47 species of tinamous and they are related to ostriches and emus. These birds can fly but prefer to run and hide when threatened, bursting into flight only as a last resort. Male tinamous incubate the eggs and raise the chicks, and tinamou eggs are beautifully colored in shades of blue, green, purple, or chocolate brown!
