Fun Facts About Segmented Worms
Segmented worms are invertebrates designed with bodies divided into many ring-like segments. These important animals are found in soil, freshwater, and oceans all around the world. The most familiar segmented worms are earthworms, but the group also includes leeches and colorful marine worms called polychaetes.
There are over 15,000 species of segmented worms with amazing abilities. Earthworms tunnel through soil, eating dead plant material and creating nutrients that help plants grow. Each segment of their body has its own set of muscles and organs, and if a worm is cut in half, the front part can sometimes regenerate a new tail!
