Fun Facts About Hummingbirds
Hummingbirds are the smallest birds in the world and are designed with wings that beat incredibly fast. These amazing birds can hover in mid-air, fly backwards, and even upside down by flapping their wings up to 80 times per second. Hummingbirds have long, thin beaks perfect for sipping nectar from flowers and shimmering, colorful feathers that sparkle in the sunlight.
There are over 300 species of hummingbirds found only in North and South America. These tiny birds have super-fast metabolisms and must eat every 10-15 minutes throughout the day to survive. Hummingbirds also eat small insects for protein and can remember every flower they visit and how long it takes for the flower to refill with nectar!
